On Receiving Gifts

This wisdom is even more timely during the Christmas holiday season, when the pressures of  preparing and receiving gifts can become overwhelming

11/22/13

On Laziness

Fear can paralyze us in our daily lives without us even realizing it, but looking inward and facing what we fear will often free us again

11/16/13

On Meditation

While sitting still, reading the mindfulness meditations, things start to clear and soon we can feel how everything goes through our body- from sound, to light.  Then we are present.

10/25/13

On Letting Things Go

Without clinging we are suddenly afforded the ability to let things pass by, and to know that we are where we are supposed to be in just this moment

10/24/13

On How to Become Present

Let's say we have a headache that came out of nowhere, but this time instead of reaching for pain killers, we allow the headache to take its' course.  We may find that the initial pain was from something entirely different, perhaps from something in the moment that soon passes by, along with the headache!

10/16/13

On Fears

Bad dreams and shadowy corners can make us fear the worst, but remember that our fears are based on something that hasn't even happened yet.  Allowing our fears to flow through us as we breathe helps us to remain in the present.

10/9/13

On Maturity and Forgiveness

In time even the worst behavior by those we have loved can be forgiven and let go of, when we are finally ready to let go of the past and live in the present

9/8/13

On Compassion and Wisdom

Compassion seems to be the key to many things, but wisdom puts it all into perspective

8/20/13

On: The Stories of Our Lives

The present offers us many opportunities to fully live in the present, instead of becoming trapped in the past

8/14/13

On Vulnerability

Today is an opportunity to remain open to the good things that come our way

8/9/13

On Events Out of our Control

Sometimes events cause us substantial grief, but if we do our best to be mindful while it's happening we can choose our best self to get through it

7/31/13

On Looking Inward

When we hide our real feelings from ourselves we shortchange our ability to recognize when these feelings and thoughts surface.  But with awareness we can learn to live with all of our feelings and can finally feel peace.

7/22/13

On Desire

The key is to stay in the present, where desire cannot sway us

7/19/13

On Trust

Today I will ignore my fears and will strike out with determination and faith

7/11/13

7/2/13

On Rejoining

Turning outwards after a period of introspection gives us an opportunity to start anew

7/1/13

On Feeling Special

People sometimes tell us that we are not special but we are still beautiful and sacred beings that can positively impact others' lives

6/28/13

On Reaching Joy

The beauty is in the healing and the laughter that we can feel once again

6/21/13

On Remaining Free

I am not owned by the tasks that I accomplish today, instead I am free mentally to enjoy the moments

6/17/13

On Having Expectations

Learning how to avoid having expectations is a real challenge, but I am up for the task today

6/13/13

On The Present Moment

The ordinary can be extraordinary when we allow ourselves to be present

6/7/13

On Another's Suffering

I cannot continue with business as usual when I see those who are suffering, so instead I offer my love and my tears of compassion

6/6/13

On Longing

It is not "us" against "them".  We are part of the whole and as such already have a connection with eachother

6/5/13

Skillful Desire

Today I will make a point of letting my creative energy and my warm feelings for others eclipse my tendency to withdraw from life

6/3/13

On the Pressure to Succeed

Rather than stressing about deadlines and aspirations, we can just breathe and accept what we do accomplish, enjoying the moments along the way

5/30/13

Grief Therapy

Grief is as natural and impermanent as laughing, and once tapped into, can bring us to a place where we can be honest with ourselves and can finally let go

5/28/13

We Are Supposed to Be Here

Sometimes we forget that we are part of the Earth, and the Earth is part of us

5/24/13

Impermanence

Everything will pass, I remind myself, and the sooner I accept that, the easier it will be

Healing Emotional Wounds

It's not as though the past never happened; learning to be at peace involves making a choice to acknowledge the past and then let it go

Simplicity

We don't need to complicate our days but can enjoy the moment

Without Grasping

Look without touching and love without grasping

When We Are Ourselves

Once again, remember that we are at our best when we allow ourselves to be relaxed and present

Compassion

Let us remember that it all starts with ourselves; we are not separate or removed from having the same compassion for ourselves that we are expected to give others

We Are A Process

Let us remember that we are all in this together, and are not divided as we fear

A Still Point Within

In the midst of changes, we all need a quiet place within ourselves to rest

Hope

I love this phrase from Jack Kornfield's mindfulness meditation book, "Lamp in the Darkness", it seems to fit my life lately but gives me hope, and just maybe it can help you today

Judgments

I am always relieved when I find myself laughing at my own judgments

When We Are Ourselves

Mindfulness meditation instructor Jack Kornfield's wisdom strikes true again

Choosing A Different Path

We can determine our own days through our attitudes

Learn To See

A gentle reminder from Buddhist monk and teacher Jack Kornfield to stay in the present

Humility

This is one to study, as often we ignore others while living our lives

Beneath the Surface

When we slow down and learn how to relax we see the small stuff

A New Perspective

Jack Kornfield allows us to see a new perspective

Fear is Unfounded

This concept from my mindfulness meditation study cards is a good one for me today as I remember how scared I was when I first travelled alone to visit my daughter in faraway Madison, Wisconsin

Preventing Indifference

The esteemed Dalai Lama reminds us that even a stranger can be valuable if we look beyond our own conditioning

Compassion from the Dalai Lama

This morning the honorable Dalai Lama posted this concept (and a lot more!) on his web page and this phrase struck me, so I made a 'card' for my blogger friends to enjoy

Avoiding Feeling Separate

Today let's see ourselves as part of the fabric of life and not separate

Balance

Staying balanced is the key to contentment, as Jack Kornfield explains
